Hormones 101

Hormones are messenger molecules in the body that have a place of origin and a place of action. The place of origin of hormones in this discussion is generally controlled by a part of the brain called the pituitary gland. The place of action for the hormones is what gets the most attention.

The pituitary gland regulates hormones that control our metabolism (making , using and storing energy) and our body composition ( fat and lean body mass proportions). Hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and thyroid are messengers that are commonly disrupted from their normal activities. There is a complicated set of circumstances on why hormones become dysregulated including diet (sugar and refined foods) stress, heredity and environmental toxins.

Many people seeking help with hormone imbalances have experienced one or more things that disrupt normal hormone activity. At GGHC, we help identify those things and make sure they are not perpetuated as we focus on the hormones themselves. The process of helping the body function better as a whole also helps the hormones do their job better.
