Estrogen Dominance

Estrogen dominance is an imbalance of hormones in the body, it is not a disease. It is a cause of many diseases and problems because estrogen is known to affect so many organs in the body. In particular, it affects female organs the most and has the effect of making them grow.

Health conditions linked to estrogen dominance include menstrual pain, heavy bleeding, uterine fibroids, fibrocystic breast and even breast cancer among others. These conditions all have the common element that cells in the body are over-stimulated by estrogen and related substances.

From the time hormones begin to rise in a young person’s body, there is a risk for estrogen dominance. This is partly because we eat too much sugar and convenience food and not enough plant-based, high fiber foods. Other causes for estrogen dominance include hormonal “mimics” in food and in the environment. These may be chemicals normally found in food, chemicals that are added as well as thousands of chemicals in the environment.

Men can also have estrogen (hormonal) dominance though it is a bit different than women. Treating men and women effectively involves changing diet and using naturopathic methods to reduce hormonal overstimulation.
