About Greenspan Naturopathic Medicine Clinic
Serving Portland, Tigard and surrounding areas
Dr. Greenspan grew up in Princeton, New Jersey and attended Penn State University, where he received a Bachelor of Sciences degree with honors in Molecular and Cell Biology, in 1986. He graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1990.
Dr. Greenspan became interested in health care while at Penn State. While in the process of applying to conventional (M.D.) medical school, he became aware of naturopathic medicine. He was accepted at Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia but declined this opportunity to pursue naturopathic medicine. He found that the natural medicine offered a more regenerative approach to health care and that it had a large emphasis on prevention and education.
These qualities of naturopathic medicine are the most important part of Dr. Greenspan's work as a physician, to help people understand the cause of their health concerns. His special emphasis on diagnosis of functional disturbances in the body enables people to learn how to stay well as they go through the treatment process.
Dr. Greenspan has served as a coordinator in the development of the IBIS software program in natural healthcare. He has also served as President of the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians and is currently Vice-President of the Board of Directors at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. He has experience in public speaking, managed health care as well as previous radio and television programming.
Dr. Jennifer Curtiss N.D. grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Oregon and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Montana. While living in Missoula, Montana, she became interested in naturopathic medicine through her therapeutic work with cancer survivors, head injury survivors, and youth home teens in transition.
Dr. Curtiss graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine June of 2005. During her medical education, she worked for the Helfgott Research Institute conducting research on naturopathic treatments for cancer. She also coordinated the High School Outreach Program, providing health workshops to Portland’s youth. She was awarded the NCNM Limelight award for her efforts in community education on topics of Naturopathic medicine.
Motivated by her passion for community wellness, Dr. Curtiss enjoys educating people on strategies for making improvements in their health and lifestyles. Outside of the office, she can be found promoting her own health by playing in the outdoors enjoying activities from gardening to skiing and hiking Mt. Hood.
Neil grew up in San Francisco and earned his B.A. in Russian Literature from University of California at Berkeley in 1990. After moving to Portland in 1994, he was exposed to naturopathic medicine and decided to devote himself to a career in natural medicine. While attending the National College of Naturopathic Medicine he worked in the health/medical section at Powells Books. He graduated from NCNM in 2001.
After graduation, Neil co-owned a naturopathic clinic for several years. During this time he focused on diabetes, and studied its treatment with the author Dr. Richard Bernstein. Neil also taught anatomy and kinesiology at East West College, before joining our clinic. in 2007.
Neil is fluent in Spanish which we use with some of our patients. He spends his free time with his son and loves to compose and play music.
Dr. Careaga earned her B.S. in Biochemistry from The Pennsylvania State University and her doctorate in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The university of Colorado, Boulder. Along the way she earned several awards. Colorado Doctoral Fellowship, NIH Biotechnology Training Grant, and NIH-NIGMS Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program. Lots of hiking, back country skiing, fishing, and organic gardening made graduate school very enjoyable.
Dr. Careaga then went back to the biotechnology field and worked as a research scientist developing human pharmaceuticals. After moving to Oregon she decided to try something different and teach chemistry at a small local college. After a couple of years of intense chemical exposure, she became ill. She could not obtain a credible diagnosis much less any meaningful treatment from conventional medicine. Because of her background in scientific research, she was determined to find a solution to her health problems.
After quite a bit of research, she decided to give naturopathic medicine a try. She was impressed by the thorough diagnostic testing used to determine the root cause of her health problems. As a biochemist, she could also see the wisdom in using the scientifically proven, yet gentler medicines that work with the body to help heal itself, instead of just suppressing symptoms.
Dr. Careaga has worked at Greenspan Good Health Center since 1999. In 2005 she earned her license as a Certified Nutritionist from the American Health Sciences University. She enjoys helping diagnose and treat complex health issues, particularly chronic digestive disorders, cardiovascular diseases, parasitic infections, and hidden dental infections. Her God-given ability to help others unravel the causes of their complex health problems has been very helpful for many patients.
Cathy was raised in Sunnyside, Washington in a small farming community. She received a B.S. degree in Business/Accounting with a major in management from the University of Washington, Seattle. She has had a career that ranged from parent group president to assistant controller. She is proficient in the operation and financial reporting of businesses.
Cathy has the unique experience in that she was raised with a naturopathic physician from the time she was an infant. She suffered from eczema and asthma and was taken to the office of Dr. Carroll in Spokane. He provided a variety of naturopathic treatments that facilitated Cathy's recovery from these conditions.
She began to use naturopathic medicine again as an adult and eventually became a patient with Dr. Greenspan's predecessor and mentor, Dr. Norman Easley. She eventually became a patient at Greenspan Good Health Center and began working here in 2000.
Cathy has become keenly interested in the entire process of care at Greenspan Good Health Center and has developed an expertise as patient care coordinator/office manager. She has been involved with naturopathic care as a patient, as a parent and as a staff member so her experience is truly an asset to everyone who is in the learning process about what lies beyond conventional medicine.

Noelle is a lover of the outdoors and loves to do anything that revolves around a campfire and exploring the mountains. In the words of one so young but mature, "I love exploring the outdoors and feeling that closeness to God. What matters in life is the journey not the final destination.
